Administering AutoMerge

The AutoMerge Management Application is an xRM model-driven application built on the same Dynamics platform as your CRM. It is where you set up AutoMerge as your Dynamics 365 data cleansing tool: connections, rules, and requests.

It's where you connect your CRM organizations, define your duplicate matching rules, and submit requests to analyze and tag duplicates across your Leads, Accounts, and Contacts.

Management App vs. your CRM

What you do there
Management App
automerge.crm4.dynamics.com
Define matching, ranking, and precision rules. Connect CRMs. Submit analysis requests.
Your CRM
<your-crm>.crm.dynamics.com
Review the tagged duplicate sets and merge them. See Using AutoMerge.

The working cycle

Cleanup is a loop, not a single action:

  1. Analyze/Tag. A request finds duplicate sets and tags them in your CRM. Nothing is merged.
  2. Validate. You review the tagged sets in your CRM and adjust rules if they're wrong.
  3. AutoMerge. A separate request merges the sets you now trust. You can also AutoMerge sets directly from your CRM instead of submitting a request.
  4. Rinse and repeat. Tweak your analysis rules if necessary, or just run another Analyze/Tag request when enough records have changed to make a fresh pass worthwhile.

Step 2 is not optional. See submitting requests.

Setting up for the first time

In order:

  1. Install the AutoMerge Solution into every CRM organization you want analyzed.
  2. Get access to the Management App.
  3. Create an Azure app user so the service can connect without a named user.
  4. Verify the CRM connection with the ClientId and secret.
  5. Review the configuration: table definition, matching, ranking, precision.
  6. Submit your first analysis against a Sandbox connection before pointing at Production.
